PRESENTMENT OF
NUISANCES
1816

To the Mayor and Bailiffs of the Corporation of the Burrough & Town of Carnarvon

We the under Signed Jurors & Burgesses sworn and appointed at the Town Hall of Carnarvon on Tuesday the 29th. day of October 1816 to inspect and report any Nuisance or Encroachment Committed uppon the Liberties of the said Town & Burrough, do represent the follows

Viz.

1st. That all the Dunghils & Timber allong the Castle Wall are Nuisances and should be removed

2d. That the Bridge leading to the Castle wants to be repaired

3d. That a Dunghill near the Smithy at Penditch wants to be removed

4th. That a Lamp or two is wanted uppon Castle Green to protect passengers in the night from the Stone Pillars that are fixd. allong the Pavement

5th. That there are two Lots of Building Stones uppon the Green wants to be removed & likewise different Dunghils and rubbish

6th. That there is a Pig Stye uppon the Green wants to be removed

7th. That there is a Small Stable and Pig Styes & Dunghils uppon Pen y bryn in Pool Street wants to be removed

8th. That there are Different Dunghils at Pen y Graig that their proprietors should make an Acknowledgement to the Corporation for the ground they occupy

9th. That there is a small breach in the Pinfold Wall wants to be repaired

10th. That a Wall wants to be erected from the Corner of the Pinfold Wall towards Mr. Pool's Garden to prevent Nuisance from the Reservoir

11th. That there is a Caution given by us to Hugh Jones Slater's Wife and Son in Law not to make a Nesessary to his new House to Injure the Town Spring to the Reservoir

12th. That Several Inhabitants of both Penrallt & Pentre Newydd complain of their being deprived of a fountain of good spring Water by Mr. Thomas Owens's Sadler's having taken possesion of the same to Adjoin his Garden Contrary to the Plan allotted to him by the Corporation when he made his purchase

13th. That several Dunghils near Richd. Williams Malster Penrallt wants to be removed

14th. That great many Nuisance uppon both sides of South Penrallt and Particular the Pig Styes Opposide Captn. Lewis Owens's House wants to be removed

15th. That the Old Water Pit at Glan y Mor is dangerous to Passengers and should be inclosed

16th. That a heap of Stones near the Liver should be removed Immediately

17th. That there is Dunghils & Rubbish Under Porth mawr Bridge allong tan y bont a nuisance

18th. That we have found Humphrey Pugh Skinner's Boiler for Boiling Sheep's feet to be a Nuisance and have Acquainted him of the same

19th. We find it required to have a Lamp at the Gable end of Wm. Thomas malster's House for the good of that Neighbourhood

20th. We find different parts of the Quay Walls wants to be repaired

21st. The Majority by ten to two of the Jury Burgesses that were appointed in the Town Hall of Carnarvon the 29th. October 1816 thinks they can Name or find if required, a Parishioner of this Parish to do the duty which David Griffith does to a greater Satisfaction to the Parishioners and save a great expense to the said Parish

22d. We think it proper that the Bailiffs and Town Stewards &c of the Town & Burrough of Carnarvon should inspect into the Weights and Measures of all the Buyers and Sellers of all the Inhabitants of the said Town & Burrough every three months

23d. We think it proper that all the Ale & Beer sold in the Town of Carnarvon should be Sold by proper Beer measure and the Seller to charge his price Accordingly

24th. We think it Dangerous to the Inhabitants of the Town of Carnarvon and market people in general that Untamed Horses rode by Horse Breakers should ride such Horses uppon any Market day or a fair through the Street of the said Town and wish to prevent the same hereafter

25th. We think it proper that all the Corn conveyed by Carts from the Ferry Boats to Carnarvon Market should come by Newgate Street Church Street and Market Street and that the said Carts should return uppon the same Road and no Carts to remain uppon the Streets after they are Unloaded

26th. We are of Opinion that many Farmers are Ignorant that Corn is prohibited from being sold before 12 Clock on Market days & that it is Necessary to give Imformation by the Town Cryer of the Same

That there is a Stone Wall near the custom house and another near the Promontary Hill wants to be removed

Mr. Thomas Williams of the Goat Inn will pay any Acknowledgement to the Corporation for the two heaps of Building Stones opposite his own house & likewise for a Dunghill which he keeps at Pen y Graig within a proper Distance from the Pump

P. S. That there is a Slaughter House at Pepper Alley of great Nuisance to the Inhabitants of that Neighbourhood and we think it very unproper that such Hours should be allowed inside of the Gates of the Town of Carnarvon
