OBITUARIES
1855

From the Carnarvon & Denbigh Herald: July 4th. 1855.

THE LATE PRINCE OF HARPISTS

The demise of Mr. Richard Roberts, the celebrated Welsh harpist, will be found recorded elsewhere in this paper. Mr. Roberts expired on the 28th. ult., very suddenly, no alteration in his state of health having been previously perceptible. For upwards of 50 years the talented deceased enjoyed the novel title of "Prince of Song," and the distinction of being the chaired monarchy of harpists. The last prize which he won was the gold harp at the Denbigh Eisteddfod in 1828, with which he was presented by his late Royal Highness the Duke of Sussex. The extreme amiability and many good qualities of Mr. Roberts won the deepest affection from his more immediate friends; while his kind and obliging disposition endeared him to a very numerous circle of admiring acquaintances.
